Your budget lives on your device. Only a little ever leaves it: what you choose to send (a Money Coach question, or an encrypted budget shared with your partner) and anonymous usage statistics.

Paper & Prosperity stores your budget, debts, savings, bills and expenses on your own device. There is no account, no bank connection, no ads and no cross-app tracking. A little information leaves your device in only three cases, each explained below: the optional Money Coach, the optional Budget Together, and anonymous usage statistics.
Everything you enter is saved in a database on your phone, tablet or computer. We do not receive a copy. If you turn on iCloud sync, your data moves between your own devices through your own Apple account, under Apple's privacy policy. Debt Free Empire never receives or stores it.
If you choose to share a household budget with a partner, the changes to that shared budget pass through our server so they can reach your partner's device. Each change is encrypted on your device first, with a key made from the invite code that only you and your partner have. Our server stores only these encrypted changes, so neither we nor anyone else can read them. Your personal budget is never shared. Either partner can delete the shared copy from our server at any time (Settings, Budget Together, Leave).
You never sign up, sign in or give us an email address to use the app. The app never connects to your bank, so we never see your bank credentials or transactions.
The Money Coach is an AI assistant. It works only when you type a question and send it. When you do, the app sends the following to our server, which passes it to our AI provider, Anthropic, so that an answer can be written:
We do not save your question or your numbers on our server. We only keep a short-lived count of how many requests come from a network address, so we can limit usage and prevent abuse. Anthropic handles the text under its own terms and privacy policy. Do not type anything into the coach that you do not want sent. If you never open the Money Coach, none of this happens, and the rest of the app works fully without it.
To learn which features are used and improve the app, it sends anonymous usage statistics to our analytics provider, HeyCatch: which screens are opened, when the app is opened or closed, a few milestones (such as finishing setup or starting a shared budget), a random identifier made for your installation, and general device information such as device type and app version. Your network address may be used to estimate your general region.
It never sends amounts, names, notes or anything you type. This information is not linked to your identity, is not used for advertising, and is not sold. The app has no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. If you tap a link, it opens in your own browser.
We do not sell or rent your information. We only use service providers that help run the app: the AI provider above (only when you use the Money Coach), HeyCatch (anonymous usage statistics), and the hosting that runs our server and stores encrypted Budget Together data. Data shared through Budget Together is encrypted so only you and your partner can read it.
When you export a PDF or CSV, or make a backup, the app saves a file where you choose, or opens your device's share sheet. That file belongs to you and is never uploaded by the app.
You can delete any entry in the app at any time, or everything at once in Settings, Data, Clear all data (or Reset app). Removing the app deletes the data stored on that device. To remove a shared budget from our server, choose Settings, Budget Together, Leave, with “Also stop sharing for my partner” ticked. Data you put in iCloud is managed in your Apple account settings. For anything else, email hello@paperandprosperity.shop.
Bill reminders are scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a server.
If you write to us for help, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We never sell or share it.
The Debt Free Empire website uses Vercel Web Analytics and HeyCatch analytics to count page views and clicks. Both tools may store a random identifier in your browser. Neither tool collects your name or email. (The app’s own anonymous usage statistics are described above.)
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
